Deutsch: Im Herbst war ich in Paris. Eine der Schönsten unter den Städten, oft fotografiert, oft gemalt, oft beschrieben. Ich habe lange gezögert, bis ich angefangen habe ein Bild von Paris zu malen. Eines war klar, ich wollte ein neues Motiv haben, eine Perspektive, die nur ich und vielleicht wenige andere gesehen haben.

Deutsch: Ebenso sollte es etwas für Paris typisches, einmaliges sein. Als wir an einem regnerischen Tag, früh am Morgen, unsere Besichtigungstour an der Champs Elysee begannen, hatte ich mein Motiv gefunden.
Englisch: Im autumn I visited Paris. One of the most beautiful cities, often photographed, often painted, often written about. I hesitated or a long time to start painting a picture of Paris. Deutsch: Wir standen vor dem Arch de Triumph. In der Mitte des Kreisverkehrs davor war ein sandiger Platz. Der nächtliche Regen hatte eine Pfütze gebildet, in der sich das großartige Monument spiegelte. So entstand das Bild „ das Auge von Paris „. Das Auge, nicht nur eine Reflexion eines Bauwerks, sondern für mich auch ein Symbol für die Weltoffenheit der Stadt, der Toleranz und des Fortschritts.
Englisch: We stood in front of the Arch de Triumph. In the middle of the traffic circle in front of there was a sandy place. The rain had caused a puddle, the puddle had the shape of an eye. The great monument was reflected in there. So the “ Eye of Paris “ was created. The eye, not only a reflection of a monument, but also a symbol for the cosmopolitanism, the tolerance and the advancement of the city.
Deutsch: Es war ein trüber Tag, ein leichter Morgennebel lag über der Stadt. Der Eiffelturm verschwamm als Silhouette im Dunst. Die erste Touristengruppe stand schon auf dem Platz und hörte dem Gruppenleiter zu. Da es ein Sonntag war fuhren um die frühe Uhrzeit noch wenig Autos. In der Entfernung waren weitere Spaziergänger unterwegs, die ebenso wie wir die Zeit nutzen wollten um möglichst viel von der Stadt zu sehen, möglichst viele Eindrücke zu sammeln.
